Chaffles are the hottest new Keto trend, this original Keto chaffle recipe has become so popular. The idea was shared on social media and I thought I have to try that out, so I did and I am obsessed. Chaffles are keto and low carb friendly, plus delicious. There are numerous ways to make a chaffle from sweet to savory and they are fun to eat in lots of different variations!
Keto Chaffle Recipe
Keto chaffles are extremely easy to make and the perfect replacement for bread on a low carb diet. I have several more variations of this recipe coming soon, but I wanted to share the original chaffle recipe first (this was not created by me), but I do have lots of original variation ideas up my sleeve for the chaffle.
What is a chaffle?
A chaffle is a combination of egg and cheese that you then cook in a waffle maker. The final product is a crispy waffle that you can enjoy many different ways.
Do chaffles taste like eggs and cheese?
First of all let me say that chaffles are kid approved. My kids are obsessed with this recipe. The original chaffle does taste cheese-y if you eat it alone. You cannot taste the egg at all in a chaffle. If you use this as a replacement for bread on a sandwich you cannot taste the ingredients at all (in my opinion).
Best Ways To Eat a Chaffle
My first chaffle I made into avocado toast. It was a chaffle topped with mashed avocado and Everything But The Bagel Seasoning (definitely one of my favorite ways to eat it). You could even top your chaffle with this delicious Keto Jam recipe. Chaffles are also great to use as a substitute for bread on a sandwich.

What kind of cheese do I use for a chaffle?
You can use any type of shredded cheese for a chaffle. The original chaffle uses cheddar cheese and most savory chaffles I have tried also use cheddar. Meanwhile the sweet chaffles typically use a mozzarella. You can experiment with using different types of cheese to change the taste. I do recommend shredding your own cheese from a block for the best taste, but pre-shredded cheese will work too!
What do I use to make a chaffle?
Any waffle maker will work to make a chaffle. If you want to make chaffle sandwiches I highly recommend the popular Dash Mini Waffle Maker available on Amazon. It heats up quickly and makes two perfectly sized chaffles for sandwiches. If you use a normal size waffle maker this recipe will only make one chaffle.
Chaffle Variations
You can also play and experiment with the chaffle recipe. You could add in Keto approved seasonings or garlic to make it more savory. For a more sweet chaffle you could add a Keto approved sweetener, vanilla, or cinnamon.

How to make a Keto chaffle
Start by heating up your waffle maker (or simply plugging it in). The Dash waffle maker heats up extremely quick!
Greasing your waffle maker is completely optional, I have found that it’s not necessary.
In a small bowl crack one egg. Then add in 1/2 cup shredded cheese. (Also add almond flour to the bowl, if you are using it.)
Whisk the egg and cheese mixture until well combined.
Sprinkle a little cheese on the waffle maker before adding the mixture to the waffle maker and then also after adding the mixture.
Pour 1/2 the mixture into the Dash waffle maker OR all the mixture into a standard size waffle maker.
Cook for 3-4 minute until it is set and crispy.
Let cool for a few minutes before enjoying.
How to make chaffles crispy
There are two tips on making crispy chaffles. First you want to add a sprinkle of cheese to the waffle maker before adding the mixture to the waffle maker. Next you want to let your chaffle cool down completely.
